VA

Charlottesville, VA to Peaks of Otter, VA - 97 miles

Weather - spectacular, sunny and 50s

We had breakfast at the Hamp and then went over to tour Monticello@. We got on the 9:30 tour of the house and then walked around the gardens and grounds. We then headed to Waynesboro where we jumped on the northernmost point of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We headed south and soon saw that there was an interesting hike up a cliff called Humpback Rocks so we stopped in a rest area, made a lunch and grabbed the backpack and hiking poles and set off. The trail we hiked intersected with the Appalachian Trail and it was great to be back on the bold AT. The hike was listed as strenuous and there were a few tricky spots near the top but we did fine. We had lunch right on the cliff edge with a magnificent view. We continued down the BLue Ridge Parkway, stopping at overlooks and enjoying the scenery. We found a lodge (similar to Joe Dodge Lodge) on the Parkway. When I called for a reservation they said that the Lodge had no Internet service, no cell phone service and no TV. It was great. We had dinner there and then did the 1 mile loop trail around the pond. It was a great spot!

Hi to all!

  1. It's probably nice to have short respite from technology. I hope you don't forget about 365 now that you have your blog, twitter, facebook, and voxer accounts to update!!
